Citypik (citypik.com) is a mobile app that identifies buildings from photos and location data. For privacy-related questions, contact us at info@citypik.com.
2. What data we process
When you use Citypik, we may process:
- Photos you take in the app, sent to our servers for analysis.
- Location data (GPS coordinates) to improve building identification.
- App preferences stored on your device (e.g. language, free scan count).
- Technical data handled by our hosting provider (e.g. IP address, request logs).
We do not require an account. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16.
3. Why we use your data
We process data to:
- Analyse building photos and return identification results.
- Operate and secure the app and its backend.
- Enforce free scan limits stored locally on your device.
Our legal basis under the GDPR is performance of the service you request when scanning a building, and legitimate interests in running and protecting the app.
4. Who we share data with
We use trusted processors to provide the service:
- Google (Gemini API) — processes your photo and location context to generate building information.
- Vercel — hosts our API and website.
These providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where applicable, appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) apply.
5. Retention
Photos are transmitted for analysis and are not stored permanently on our servers after the request completes. Scan counts and language preferences remain on your device until you clear app data or uninstall the app. Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and troubleshooting.
6. Your rights (EEA / UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, you may have the right to:
- Access, rectify, or erase your personal data.
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Data portability, where applicable.
- Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise your rights, email info@citypik.com. Clearing app data on your device removes locally stored preferences and scan counts.
7. Permissions
The app requests camera access to photograph buildings and location access while you use the app. You can deny permissions in your device settings; some features will not work without them.
8. Changes
We may update this policy for legal or product changes. The latest version will always be published at this page. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
